Italian writer Gianni Rodari, the creator of Chipollino a fairy tale character beloved by many children, lived a difficult, but bright and happy life. He did what he loved - writing for children and considered them the most grateful readers. His books “The Adventures of Chipollino”, “Gelsomino in the Land of Liars”, “The Adventures of the Blue Arrow” are a treasury of children's literature. More than one generation of children in Eurasia grew up on the Rodari’s books.
He was not only a children's author, but also worked as a journalist. He was a literary employee until the end of his life in the magazine for young people “Avangard” and the newspaper “Paese Sera”.
In 1967, Gianni Rodari was recognized as the best writer in Italy. The writer's books are published in millions of copies and have been translated into dozens of languages. Gianni Rodari received the Hans Christian Andersen International Gold medal– the highest award in children's literature. All his life, he remained a friend to children and could suddenly ask: “What would you do, if a crocodile knocked on your door?”
