On April 25, 2024, the international event “Spirit of the Elbe” took place in Moscow. Its organizers are the Russian Union of Veterans, the International Council of Russian compatriots. The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly co-organized the event.

On April 25, 1945, a historic meeting between Soviet and American troops took place on the banks of the Elbe River. The event crowned the defeat of Nazi Germany. And the goal of the International Action on the anniversary of this event is to attract the attention of the world community to the issues of preserving historical memory. Promoting the restoration of international dialogue, cooperation and the revival of the spirit of alliance in the name of peace and creation.

The participants of the action are representatives of international public organizations, political and public figures, historians and scientists from Eurasian countries, the USA, Germany, Russia, the CIS countries and other countries, including the American University in Moscow and the Russia House in Washington.

Valery Ruzin - Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, President of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio:

“Today, historical truth in Western countries is systematically subject to distortion and falsification. Silence about the facts of the past is a form of historical colorblindness, which ultimately only strengthens evil. In modern conditions, the role of public diplomacy is becoming increasingly important. The difficulties of carrying out large international initiatives at the state level require the active participation of public organizations.”

On April 25, 2024, in Moscow, in Victory Park on Poklonnaya Hill, flowers were laid at the “Spirit of the Elbe” memorial plaque.

Also, in the park in the center of Moscow there was a presentation of the international art project “Angels of Peace”, which has been supported by the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly for many years.

This year the “Angels of Peace” project celebrates its first anniversary. For 10 years, paintings bearing bright images of defenders and guardians of humanity have united artists from 26 countries, attracted the attention of poets and composers, professionals and amateurs, adults and children. This project has become truly popular. Talking about the project, the participants gratefully remembered its ideologist, Krasnoyarsk artist Yulia Ivanova, whose birthday is on April 25.

Presenting the exhibition, the Head of the Department of Spiritual Culture of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, Irina Polyakova, emphasized that the Assembly strongly supports the initiatives of the project, sharing its main goal - the development of the socio-cultural space of Eurasia:

“By passing on tactile posters depicting angels to friends and partners, our Assembly confirms the readiness of different people, regardless of national and political differences, to cooperate. On the wings of angels, ideas of love, gratitude, friendship and peace fly across countries and continents.”

The exhibition featured works by artists from Armenia, Italy, Russia, France, Croatia, and Turkey. One of the artists, Elena Komarova, spoke with words of gratitude. Her painting “Angels of Peace” seemed to reflect the main dream of all people - the dream of peace and prosperity of our entire planet.

Also, in honor of the historical date, a friendly chess tournament was organized, which was held online with the participation of the Sfera diplomatic club. Trees were planted at the “Meeting on the Elbe” monument in Moscow.
