On April 23, 2022, the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly held an international working session with partners from seven countries: Bulgaria, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia and Slovenia.
The discussion was attended by representatives of public organizations, historians, local historians, leaders of search teams. The discussion voiced acute problems facing today in the matter of preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and World War II and outlined practical approaches for their solutions. In particular, memorial work. It is entrusted to the consulates, but they have neither the time, nor the skills, nor the means to carry it out. It is necessary to involve search teams with a unified accounting system, reconciliation methodology and experience in such work. To do this, communication between state and public structures must reach the level of real interaction.
Today, the accounting tool for Latvian search teams is the “Honor and Remember” platform, created by enthusiast Dmitry Zakharov. The platform builds visible links between all the information that comes to it from various sources: letters from relatives, search teams finds. A mobile application has also been developed where one can send the available data to. An interactive map of monuments shows which of them need restoration.
Historian and local historian, the number one authority in Latvia, Alexander Rzhavin, made a proposal for 3D scanning of monuments. Considering the current world situation, one must be prepared for the demolition of monuments to Soviet soldiers in the Baltic countries. But save the ability to restore them in the future.
Alexander Rzhavin is known for his active position in upholding historical justice. He protects monuments to Soviet soldiers who liberated Latvia from Nazism.
