Svetlana Smirnova proposed establishing a Coordination Committee of the Public Diplomacy Centers of the SCO Countries

The delegation of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly under the leadership of the First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Svetlana Konstantinovna Smirnova is on a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.

As part of this visit, on October 18, a Round Table was held on the topic “Priorities of the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the SCO: increasing the global role of the organization, strengthening friendship and cooperation in the SCO space.” The event took place at the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Center in Tajikistan.

The event was organized by the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Tajikistan. It was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, ambassadors of member states, SCO observers and dialogue partners, experts, as well as representatives of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Round Table participants exchanged views on issues related to the prospects and ways of implementing cooperation within the SCO during Kazakhstan's chairmanship, and discussed modern challenges and problems.

During the Round Table, the speech of the President of Kazakhstan at the 23rd SCO Summit was especially noted, where the main priorities of the republic’s chairmanship in the SCO were outlined, as well as proposals for the adoption of a new development strategy, which is designed to expand the Organization’s agenda in the most promising areas of multilateral interaction.

SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming and Rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Director of the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Center in Tajikistan Gafurzoda Abdukhalil Davlatali addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Tajikistan Turekhanov Valikhan Amirkhanuly emphasized that Kazakhstan, as the state that stood at the origins of the establishment of the Organization, within the framework of its chairmanship will continue to increase its global role, helping to strengthen friendship and good neighborliness in the SCO space, as well as having significant investment, trade and transport potential, intends to promote a common contribution to solving global problems.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Tajikistan Semyon Vyacheslavovich Grigoriev focused the participants’ attention on the growing attractiveness of the SCO. “The SCO is becoming a stabilizing factor in the global space,” - he noted.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the SCO Friendship and Cooperation Center in Tajikistan, Rashid Kutbudinovich Alimov, in his speech, emphasized the importance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in modern conditions.

First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Svetlana Konstantinovna Smirnova placed special emphasis on the need for close cooperation of non-governmental organizations to create an atmosphere of trust between countries and peoples, and proposed the creation of a Coordination Committee of the Centers for Public Diplomacy of the SCO countries.

Considering internal, regional and global factors, the Shanghai organization has come to understand the need to improve its activities, including introducing amendments and additions to the SCO Charter.
