First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Chairman of the Council of the All-Russian public organization "Assembly of the Peoples of Russia", member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation on Interethnic Relations Svetlana Smirnova paid a working visit to the Udmurt Republic.

A working meeting was held at the republican “House of Friendship of Peoples” with leaders and activists of national-cultural associations of the Udmurt Republic, employees of the Ministry of National Policy of the Udmurt Republic, and employees of the House of Peoples’ Friendship.

In Udmurtia, a committee on nationalities was established 30 years ago. At that time, the situation in the country as a whole was difficult, and therefore it was not easy to build harmonious relations between representatives of different nationalities. Now all national and cultural associations are developing under the auspices of the House of Peoples' Friendship and the Ministry of National Policy of the Udmurt Republic. The republic manages to implement an extensive calendar of ethnic projects based on the diversity of traditions and cultures of the peoples living in the region.

In 2023, more than 80 projects from Udmurtia won presidential grant competitions aimed at preserving culture, developing native languages, patriotic education of the younger generation, and strengthening the unity of the Russian nation. This is more than 54 million rubles. Projects by the House of Peoples’ Friendship of Udmurtia become laureates of All-Russian competitions.

“The sphere of interethnic relations is very important for our country. The state is doing everything possible to preserve the culture, traditions and languages of all peoples. Every year, funds are allocated from the country's budget to support national theaters, television, and projects of national cultural associations. For example, more than 80 languages are used in the education system, VGTRK broadcasts in more than 50 languages,” - said Svetlana Smirnova.
