On October 18, 2023, events dedicated to the establishment of the Russia-Tajikistan Friendship Society took place in Dushanbe. The initiative of the Russian Association for International Cooperation was supported by the Tajik Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries. The organization was headed by Sattar Mia, an entrepreneur and a great friend of Tajikistan. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Tajikistan Semyon Grigoriev became honorary President of the Society. The organization will be engaged in the popularization of Tajik culture in Russia, the development of public diplomacy and strengthening ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The presentation of the Russia-Tajikistan Friendship Society took place at the Tajik National University.

According to Semyon Grigoriev, when he was appointed to the position, he was very surprised that the countries do not have an organization engaged in people-to-people diplomacy - that is, building ties between ordinary people rather than government agencies, something that Moscow and Dushanbe do so well.

This function will now be taken over by the "Society for Friendship with Tajikistan", established under the auspices of the oldest non-governmental organization of the Russian Federation - the Russian Association for International Cooperation (RAMS).

According to RAMS Secretary General Vladimir Polozkov, the “Society” will popularize Tajik culture in the Russian Federation, as well as support humanitarian, youth and educational projects.

In addition, the organization provides intermediary and advisory assistance to small and medium-sized businesses, which should be facilitated by the appointment of businessman and president of the National Group company Sattar Mia to the position of head.

“So, we are now working on the issue of opening a separate house of Tajikistan in the Kaluga region, where the huge theme park “Ethnomir” is located,” - explained Polozkov, speaking at the Tajik National University.

As a result, this will help Russian citizens get to know Tajikistan much better and learn more about the country’s culture and traditions, experts say.

“Such interaction creates the insurance, the guarantee that will not allow us to change the course towards mutually beneficial cooperation and fraternal relations between our peoples,” - emphasized Semyon Grigoriev, who was present at the ceremony at TNU.

First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Svetlana Smirnova, speaking during the presentation of the Society, emphasized its importance.

“The theme of the meeting, “People are Strong through Friendship,” accurately defines the basis of good neighborly relations between countries. Friendship is sorely lacking in the modern world. We need to communicate, learn about each other, be friends,” - she said.
