On May 22 - 24, 2024, the 8th International Arctic Summit “The Arctic: Prospects, Innovation and Regional Development” (Arctic Summit 2024) will take place in Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which is celebrated in Russia in 2024. As part of the Summit, a ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Arctic Academy of Sciences will be held.
The summit is organized by the Arctic Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly jointly with the Arctic Academy of Sciences, the Energy and Civil Society Association and the Institute of Arctic Oil and Gas Technologies of the I.M. Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.
The International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "Eurasian Peoples' Assembly" will provide the main prize, named by the Summit Directorate of the "Polar Star", to the winner of the research competition aimed at sustainable development of the Arctic. The scientific competition will be held as part of the Summit among Russian and foreign students and graduate students of leading universities in order to develop their creative and scientific activity. Special Partner of the Competition from 2023 - Decade of Science and Technology (Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated April 25, 2022).
On May 22, 2024, the Summit will be held at the Moscow Automobile and Highway State Technical University, one of the leading technical universities in Russia, and on May 23-24, 2024 at the St. Petersburg University of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (SPb State Fire Service), the first in Russia and one of the first fire-technical educational institutions in Europe.
The Arctic Summit 2024 is expected to be attended by representatives of federal and regional structures, leading Russian and foreign oil and gas and energy companies, transport, financial, scientific, service organizations and the media.
Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated March 5, 2020 N 164 “On the Fundamentals of State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic for the period up to 2035” covers a set of critical issues for the effective implementation of the new state policy of a vast and unique region, which is the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. Polar Explorer's Day has been established, which has been celebrated in Russia annually in May since 2013 in recognition of the merits of people working at the North and South Poles of the Earth.
Participants in the Summit will be widely presented with practical issues of modern innovative technologies, international cooperation, specific regional and sectoral programs, including current and future tasks for the development of the Arctic zone of Russia, Arctic cities and infrastructure in the Arctic zone. The Summit will include an exhibition of highly efficient technologies and developments of Russian and foreign organizations.
