The grandson of the first president of the Fifth French Republic, the legendary General Charles de Gaulle, Pierre de Gaulle, arrived in Russia to participate in the Forum of United Cultures in St. Petersburg (November 15-17). After completing his work in the cultural capital, the public figure spent several days in Moscow, establishing a wide range of connections, including as the founder of the International Foundation “For Peace Among Nations”.

The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly established fruitful contacts with Pierre de Gaulle, starting from his first visit to Russia to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. He participated in a number of significant events of the Assembly and repeatedly spoke about this in his public speeches and at press conferences on the issues of the geopolitical world order.

This time, Pierre de Gaulle’s participation in the “Open Air” program (TV Channel “Zvezda”, November 21) received special attention from the public. The Head of the Department for the Preservation of Historical Memory of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Igor Shpynov, helped the guest with translation from French.

Current issues reflected in the analytical comments of the grandson of the first president of the Fifth French Republic made it possible to more clearly understand the complex processes of changing public opinion in the West, in particular on such topics as the Middle East, Ukraine, and the future of cultural ties between Russia and the West.

In particular, Pierre de Gaulle noted that he was disappointed with the policies of the current authorities of the Fifth Republic: “France must be more independent, as it was in the time of my grandfather, and abandon duplicitous actions towards Russia.”

Earlier, on the sidelines of the Forum of United Cultures in St. Petersburg, the grandson of Charles de Gaulle announced his desire to obtain Russian citizenship. “Your country offers great opportunities. I love your deep and powerful culture, intellect and Russian spirit."

Before leaving for his homeland, Pierre de Gaulle expressed a strong interest in expanding the ties of his Foundation “For Peace Among Nations” with the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, emphasizing that his great grandfather was always imbued with the idea of uniting peoples and partner countries on the Eurasian continent - “Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok".
