December 6 – 9, 2021, the UN Office in Geneva will host the first events of the Geneva Readings international project organized by the Cultural Seasons Charitable Foundation, the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN Office in Geneva, the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "Eurasian Peoples' Assembly" and the Russian Association for the Assistance of the United Nations.

The Geneva Readings will bring together a series of expert, cultural and charitable events aimed at developing multilateral cooperation, replicating best practices, popularizing the most effective approaches to accelerating progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year events of  “Geneva Readings. Sustainable Development Goals 2021” will be attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, international and intergovernmental organizations, business leaders, civil society, the scientific community, as well as representatives of the participating regions that have joined the UN RAS Program "Regions of Russia and the UN Sustainable Development Goals" (Moscow, Republic of Tatarstan, Samara and Sverdlovsk regions).

On December 6, the presentation of the seventh edition of the Report “Russian Regions and UN Sustainable Development Goals”  program will take place with the participation of the Governor of the Samara Region Dmitry Azarov and Director of the UN Office in Geneva Tatyana Valovaya. The presentation will be followed by the grand opening of a photo exhibition of the Samara Region dedicated to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The event will be moderated by Alexey Borisov, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Association for the Assistance to the United Nations, Vice President of the World Federation of UN Associations.

On December 7, a Round Table "Implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the New Reality: Experience of Presenting the VNO SDGs, Practical Achievements of Russian Regions, Business Opportunities" will take place. The participants will be presented with the current results of the activities of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in the field of promoting the sustainable development agenda during a pandemic. The Round Table will discuss best practices of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation for integrating the SDGs into local socially significant initiatives; the role of business in the sustainable development of regions, areas and key trends of social business programs in accordance with the SDGs.

The Round Table will be attended by leaders of Russian business and international companies, an expert society, representatives of government authorities, business associations, scientific and educational communities, as well as representatives of UN structures and international organizations. Anatoly Karpov, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, President of the International Union of Charitable and Humanitarian Public Associations "Soviet Peace Fund" will moderate the event.

Following the Round Table, the final document on the establishment of a permanent dialogue platform "Geneva Readings" under the auspices of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN Office in Geneva and the UN Office in Geneva will be proposed for discussion. This platform will become the basis of an expert platform for multilateral cooperation to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Office in Geneva.

The Charity Christmas Reception will take place on December 8. It will include a charity auction and a Christmas market.
