On February 27, 2024, the All-Russian scientific and practical conference with international participation “Current Problems of National Sports” was held in the capital of Bashkortostan. It was dedicated to the celebration of the 450th anniversary of the City of Ufa foundation. Among the participants there were not only representatives of Russian regions, but also the Republic of Belarus and Kyrgyzstan.

The conference raised issues about the state of Russian national sports at the present stage; about the EURASIADA as a new format of competitions in national and non-Olympic sports; about the role of national sports as a factor of social, cultural and military-sports orientation; about the relevance of the development of national martial arts and national sports as a factor in the development of ethnic identity.

Ilya Lomako, General Director of the ANO “Directorate of Sports and Social Projects and Programs “EURASIADA”, established by the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, finalist of the International Competition “Leader of Public Diplomacy”, spoke at the conference on the results of past competitions and plans for new starts in the next two years.

The development of national and non-Olympic sports in the Eurasian space is one of the priority areas in the activities of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly. The Assembly became one of the organizers of the International Sports Games of national and non-Olympic sports “Towards the EURASIADA” held in August 2023 in Ufa. The competition was attended by 500 participants, including athletes (328), representatives of delegations, coaches and judges. 22 countries were represented at the games - from Europe, Asia and Africa.

Competitions were held in nine sports - arm wrestling, mas-wrestling, computer sports, sport knife throwing, air power athletics, kettlebell lifting, gorodoshny sport, tug of war, polyathlon. A total of 91 sets of awards were presented in the competition.

The capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan acted as the center of a complex event, which, in addition to its rich sports program, included a festival and business parts.

“Competitions in national sports solve problems not only of a sporting nature, but also of moral and cultural education, transfer of experience and knowledge of the peoples of the Eurasian continent. And one of the concepts of the Eurasiada is to hold festivals and forums as part of sports competitions,” - noted Ilya Lomako and added that preparations are currently underway for future competitions, which are planned in the next two years.
