Sergey Sanakoev, President of the ANO Center for Research and Forecasts of the Development of the Asia-Pacific Region, Deputy Chairman of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly took part in the Eastern Economic Forum, which is taking place these days in Vladivostok.

What are the successful and unsuccessful models of bilateral investment co-operation in industrial production, construction, culture? What are the best practices in company management? These issues were discussed by experts at the session "Cultural Code of Russian-Chinese Investment Cooperation" on September, 11.

Sergey Sanakoev told the discussion participants about the features of economic and investment cooperation with China, business traditions that are different from Western countries, and shared his own experience in implementing Russian-Chinese projects.

“If you want to be successful with your partner, then learn to listen to him, hear him, otherwise you may not feel the difference in mentalities and will not get results,” noted Sergey Sanakoev.

The speakers noted that Russian-Chinese cooperation is developing at a steady pace. Thus, bilateral trade will confidently exceed the psychologically important barrier of $200 billion in 2023. The presence of Chinese companies in the Russian Federation in the industrial, agricultural, construction, automotive and e-commerce industries is expanding. Traditionally, the number of bilateral humanitarian and cultural projects is expanding. China is becoming an important source of best practices in management and technological innovation. At the same time, experts came to the general opinion that investment activity faces serious barriers caused by both the sanctions regime and the crisis phenomena of the global economy.

On the same day, Sergey Sanakoev took part in the session “Science diplomacy in Asia: constructive cooperation”. The Session raised issues of the development of advanced scientific knowledge and the role of diplomacy in this process, considered the contribution of countries and academic communities of Asian states to the formation of effective foreign policy and the role of scientific diplomacy in overcoming political, historical, cultural, ethnic, religious and other contradictions in Asia and in the world, etc.

In his speech, the Deputy Secretary General emphasized the important role of direct communication between representatives of the scientific community and the development of scientific diplomacy in the world.

“Science and diplomacy – these two areas are so interestingly combined that I would recommend bringing such a topic to any international forum. There is really something to talk about... After all, in many ways classical science develops thanks to exchange, and this is a whole layer of features of mentality and culture...”, - emphasized Sergei Sanakoev.

The speakers noted that the current active expansion of Russia’s ties with the global South and its most important part - Asia - requires the use of various forms, methods and channels of interaction, designed to increase the effectiveness of this interaction. One of these channels is scientific diplomacy - a type of public diplomacy within the international scientific interaction, aimed at solving common problems for humanity and establishing cooperation between countries and peoples. Science in modern Asia is rapidly developing, the weight and influence of these countries in world politics is growing, and in parallel with this, the contribution of academic communities to the formation of the independent foreign policy of their states, as well as the potential and activity of scientific diplomacy, is increasing.
