“Constellation of the First”: International Cultural Dialogue and Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Horse Breeding and the Preservation of National Traditions

On March 27, 2024, a large-scale Eurasian forum of national cultures and equestrian traditions “Constellation of the First” took place at the site of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The event was held in a hybrid format (in person and via video conferencing).

Organizers of the forum: International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "Eurasian Peoples' Assembly", Russian Academy of Sciences, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Association for the Development of Horse Breeding, All-Russian Institute of Horse Breeding and ANO "Eurasian Center for Equestrian Traditions".

Representatives of government bodies, non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the scientific and educational community, media, culture, film industry, youth and national-cultural public associations, leading experts in the equestrian industry from more than 10 countries of the world took part in the dialogue platform.

Chairman of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, member of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation on Interethnic Relations Svetlana Smirnova expressed her gratitude to foreign partners, thanking them for their support and participation in the event. “We understand how strong our ties and friendships are,” she emphasized.

The forum participants were welcomed on behalf of the Russian Academy of Sciences by the Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Stepan Kalmykov:

“Statistics show that today horse breeding is developed in 77 regions of Russia, which indicates the importance of the industry for the economy and culture of the country. 45 breeds, 5 breed types are registered in the Russian register of selection achievements, and work on breeding and preserving genetic diversity is carried out in 183 horse breeding organizations.”

The agenda of the Forum includes issues of popularization and further development of public diplomacy through modern mechanisms of cultural, humanitarian, scientific, educational and business cooperation through the prism of national cultures and equestrian traditions of the peoples of Russia and the world.

The extensive program of the event included a broad dialogue on issues of cooperation in horse breeding, in particular, the integration of festivals of national cultures into planned events. Thus, at one of the panel sessions there was a presentation of the festival, which will take place at the Kazan Hippodrome on June 14–15. This unique event will feature exciting Eurasian horse racing.

Particular attention of the participants was paid to the development of an interdepartmental program aimed at supporting and developing Russian horse breeding and strengthening its position in the international arena.

The forum was dedicated to one of the most important topics of interaction between science and the sub-sector of agriculture - horse breeding. The dialogue covered key aspects of the role of cost-effectiveness research in the equine industry. According to experts, this area is currently facing the challenges of increasing productivity and improving animal welfare, as well as the sustainability and environmental friendliness of the industry. Science provides the tools to solve these problems through cutting-edge research and innovative developments.
