Textbook Presentation - a Step towards a Humanitarian Society

On April 30, training seminars and the presentation of the project "Teaching journalism to young people and children over 12 years old with disabilities due to eye disease and its accessory apparatus “Journalism Lessons for the Blind". The project was implemented using the Grant of the President of the Russian Federation for social services, social support and protection of citizens provided by the Presidential Grants Foundation.

The project "Journalism Lessons for the Blind" involves professionals and enthusiasts who develop inclusive additional education for young people and children with diseases of the eye and its accessory apparatus - teachers, typhlopedagogues, psychologists, leaders and employees of educational and rehabilitation centres, regional centres of the All-Russian Society of the Blind, parents of children with disabilities.

Thanks to the Presidential Grants Foundation, as well as the team of authors - Olga Chirkova and Alexei Samoletov, a new unique textbook has been published. It will allow children with vision problems to get acquainted with the basics of the profession of a journalist in audio format. The textbook contains several sections, studying which children can learn about the genres of journalism, stylistic features, as well as about the history of foreign and domestic journalism.

More than 1000 copies of the textbook were given to young people with visual disabilities, as well as to rehabilitation centres and libraries for use in their professional activities.

During the implementation of the project, a survey was conducted, which made it possible to determine the level of social adaptation of children over 12 years old and young people of the target group to assess the interest among young people and children with visual impairments in the further development of their creative abilities. At the same time, a preliminary assessment of the satisfaction of target groups with digital teaching materials was carried out with the aim of further use in inclusive additional education. The level of awareness of parents of children with visual impairments about additional opportunities for planning a professional career was assessed.
