“Streets of Our Heroes”: Inna Morozova about Elizaveta Chaikina Street (Ufa, Russia)

Radio Russia-Bashkortostan hosts a series of programs “Streets of Our Heroes”, organized by the Representative Office of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Within the project in honour of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, famous people of the republic tell about the famous war heroes, home front workers and Heroes of the Soviet Union, whose names are immortalized in the street names as a tribute to the courage, bravery and self-sacrifice of these people.

In the next issue of the series, Inna Morozova, Director of the Department for Ensuring the Activities of the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan, tells about the street named after Elizaveta Chaikina.

The street named after partisan, Hero of the Soviet Union Elizaveta Ivanovna Chaikina is located in the Ordzhonikidze district of Ufa. It is 1296 meters long.

During the Great Patriotic War, Komsomol member Liza Chaikina headed the underground youth organization, took an active part in the operations of the partisan detachment on the territory of the Velikie Luki and Kalinin regions.

In November 1941, Liza Chaikina was sent to the town of Peno in the Tver region to scout out the enemy garrison, but was caught by the Germans. Under torture, she refused to give out information about the whereabouts of the partisan detachment and was shot. Elizabeth was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously. Liza Chaikina was also awarded the Order of Lenin.

Streets in more than thirty cities, including Ufa, are named after Liza Chaikina. A motor ship was named in honour of the brave partisan, several monuments were erected, and there is a museum dedicated to Lisa.
