Science Diplomacy in the Service of Society

On November 10, all countries of the world celebrate the World Science Day for Peace and Development. This Day is celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO since 2002. On this day representatives of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly took part in the conference “The Role of Civil Society in the Scientific and Technological Development of a Modern Multicultural World”.

Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Doctor of Philosophy Alexandra Ochirova told the conference participants about the concept of humanitarian security, which should become one of the main topics of modern sustainable safe development. Also, she raised the topics of a new moral order, saving humanity and civilization of meaning. It should be emphasized that these topics are supported by the Russian Commission for UNESCO and are increasingly being discussed at the national and international levels.

Yulia Petrova, Deputy Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly for International Cooperation, Professor, Candidate of Economic Sciences, acquainted the audience with the activities of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly and presented the project “Forum of Science Diplomacy. Smart corridors.” The presentation of this project aroused great interest among the conference participants.

The V. I. Vernadsky non-Governmental Environmental Foundation and the Working group on interethnic and interfaith relations of the State Duma Committee on education and science of the Russian Federation organized the conference “The Role of Civil Society in the Scientific and Technological Development of a Modern Multicultural World”.

The dialogue on science is another opportunity to discuss research and development aimed at the creative development and preservation of peace on our planet with colleagues. “The achievements of scientists from different countries belong to all of humanity, so, realizing their responsibility for the fate of the world, researchers combine their efforts, scientific and moral potential to achieve common goals,”  - the website of the V.I. The outcome of the conference are preliminary agreements on cooperation reached between the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly and the Working group on interethnic and interfaith relations of the State Duma Committee on education and science. Also, an agreement between the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly and the Vernadsky non-Governmental Environmental Foundation was signed.
