Members of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, veterans, members of the NVO, representatives of public organizations, authorities, the business community and the media came to pay tribute to the feat of the Soviet soldiers.

The most respected guest of the ceremony is Lyudmila Nikolaeva, a resident of besieged Leningrad. The siege of the city by the Nazis fell on her young years. She says she survived by a miracle. An aerial bomb fell on her house but did not explode.

Lyudmila Nikolaeva, veteran of the Great Patriotic War:

“I extinguished incendiary bombs, although I was still a girl. She took care of the wounded, washed bloody bandages, because there were not enough bandages in Leningrad to bandage the wounded. And the wounded, you understand, were many. Because the guns were firing at Leningrad all the time, and the planes flew in.”
