France and Poland to Join International TV Bridge “Meeting on Elbe – 75”

Today, April 17, is the Day of Remembrance of the Russian Legion, those who died in the First World War near the small town of Courcy in the center of France. “This year there were no official events in connection with the quarantine, but local residents, one by one, came to the memorial to the Russian soldiers with banners that have been preserved since then and laid flowers from their own gardens.” informed the mayor of Courcy, Martin Julie, during the working meeting on the preparation of the International teleconference “Meeting on Elbe – 75”on April 24.

The meeting was also attended by Dariusz Jaworski, mayor of the city of Witnica (Poland). He said that today in Witnitsa almost all 13 thousand residents urgently sew masks. “By Thursday, quarantine is planned to be lifted, children will go to school, and from that day, everyone will have to, in accordance with the adopted order, wear masks to be protected from coronavirus infection,” said Dariusz Jaworski.

Dariusz Jaworski said that his hometown, despite the fact that it was located on the way of the Soviet army to Berlin in 1945, did not suffer in those years. In Witnica there is a famous Palace which was once visited by Frederick the Great. In this Palace, Marshal Zhukov held meetings before the decisive offensive on Berlin. Dariusz Jaworski plans to share with the teleconference organizers the photos of the Palace made today and in those memorable for all Poles days. In addition, the mayor of Witnica promised to send photos and memories of the participants of the legendary Meeting on the Elbe from the Polish side.

For reference: The international teleconference devoted to the 75th anniversary of the meeting on the Elbe will be held on April 24 in the format of a Zoom conference. The event is organized at the initiative of international non-governmental organizations and coincides with the historic meeting of the USSR and the USA Troops in Germany and the end of World War II.

The teleconference is intended to remind of the Allies victory in World War II, to draw the public attention to questions of preserving historical memory, countering attempts to rehabilitate Nazism, and also to propose new ideas for saving the planet from war, climatic and other threats.

Famous historians and scientists, public and political figures from Russia, the USA, France, Germany, India, China, the former republics of the Soviet Union, other countries of Eurasia will take part in an online conference on the lessons of World War II, the significance of “Meeting on the Elbe” after 75 years, the possibility and necessity of cooperation for peace and creation. Facebook and YouTube will broadcast the conference.
