FAO Working Group Discusses UN Food Systems Summit National Dialogue

On February 11, at the invitation of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and with the assistance of the FAO Moscow office, First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Svetlana Smirnova, Deputy Secretary General Mikhail Fedorov and Deputy Head of the General Secretariat for International Cooperation Yulia Petrova took part in the videoconference on the UN Food Systems Summit National Dialogue.

The meeting was also attended by the representatives of MSUFP and FAO Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Vladimir Rakhmanin.

In the preparatory process for the Food Systems Summit to be held in 2021, food systems dialogues will be convened in three formats. The main format is National Dialogues; the second is Global Dialogues that will be fueled by the results of National Dialogues. And, finally, there will be Independent Dialogues that can be convened within states, between states, representatives of interest groups, stakeholders, consumers, manufacturers, scientific circles, public and non-governmental organizations. This issue was discussed at the meeting on February 11.

Remind, earlier the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly together with the Moscow State University of Food Production came out with the initiative to hold the “Global Food Forum 2021”, and have already held an online preparatory design and analytical session on December 10. During that session, Oleg Kobyakov, Director of the UN FAO Bureau for Liaison with the Russian Federation, emphasized that the forum initiated by a non-governmental public organization would help to unite efforts. The international structures of the UN FAO, WHO, UNESCO, the World Bank, the Committee to Combat Devastation and other organizations will not only support, but also help in its organization and implementation.
