On November 2, 2022, the Media Forum of the CIS countries "Media Development in a Changing World" was held at the multimedia press center of the Rossiya Segodnya (Russia Today) MIA. The forum was devoted to the analysis of the current state and prospects for the development of the media industry in the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the development of mechanisms, including legislative ones, to counter risks and fakes in the media environment in the post-Soviet space.
Valery Ruzin, Deputy Secretary General, Chairman of the Council for Cooperation in the Eurasian Media Space of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, spoke at the session “Journalism Standards in the Information Space of the CIS”. In his speech, he touched upon the topic of the eradication of historical memory in the public mind, and also emphasized that anxiety in relation to the cultural sphere has matured in the internal Russian agenda in the media and in society.
Speaking about the work to preserve historical memory carried out by the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Valery Ruzin highlighted the holding of the film festival "Won Together", which took on the function of not only a film screening and acquaintance with the work of foreign directors who defend the truth of common history in their work. The festival acts as a business platform for joint co-production of countries. The concluded cooperation agreements have given birth to four joint Russian-Chinese film projects already.
Session moderator Vyacheslav Sutyrin, editor-in-chief of Eurasia Expert magazine, vice-rector of the Russian State Academic University for the Humanities, summed up: if we do not fill the media space of the allied states, it will be filled by others - those who need it for their own purposes.
