Belyaninov and Karpov discussed New Forms of Confidence Building and Rapprochement of States’ Positions

Today, on January 21, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Andrei Belyaninov and the Honorary President of the International Association of Public Associations “Association of Chess Federations”, State Duma Deputy, Chairman of the International Association of Peace Foundations, multiple World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov held the first meeting this year at the headquarters of the Eurasian Peoples 'Assembly in Moscow.

The parties discussed the creation of conditions for strengthening confidence and cooperation between countries, new forms of rapprochement of the positions of states and other initiatives. During the conversation, Andrey Belyaninov and Anatoly Karpov touched upon the issue of strengthening trust between countries through sports.

First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly Svetlana Smirnova also attended the working meeting.

Recall, public diplomacy is the main instrument of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly work. The Assembly also pays great attention to sports diplomacy issues as a lever influencing the development of international relations. Anatoly Karpov is actively involved in social activities in this area. One of his projects is the Chess for Peace international program. He talked about it in one of his interviews while in the UN in New York at a session of simultaneous games with chess fans.

Eurasian Peoples' Assembly

The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly is an international non-governmental organization aimed at forming a social integration model in the name of establishing peace and harmony through the development of multilateral cooperation and public (people's) diplomacy in the Eurasian space. Currently, the Assembly brings together representatives from over 40 countries. The Assembly concluded 98 agreements with partners in various fields of activity: culture, entrepreneurship, the development of integration ties between the peoples of Eurasia, public diplomacy. Association of Chess Federations

The International Association of Public Associations “Association of Chess Federations” is the first international sports organization in the post-Soviet space. The Association includes chess federations of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, as well as chess federations of the cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow.
